News - Helping Dogs Help People
2007 The Foundation approved a $5000 grant for
Assistance Dogs of America. This organization helps children and
adults with disabilities achieve greater independence by
training and placing service and therapy dogs to assist with the
individual's daily needs. From children with muscular dystrophy
and spina bifada to adults with cerebral palsy and spinal cord
injuries, the trained service dogs provide their owners with
self-reliance, self confidence, self-esteem, and most
importantly, a chance to live their lives to the fullest
potential. Therapy dogs, equally highly trained, offer comfort
and companionship to children in schools, persons in nursing
homes and individuals with developmental disabilities, autism
and Down’s Syndrome..
Increased Funding to Help Save America's Treasures
2006 The Foundation approved a $4000 grant for the Black Swamp
Conservancy of Perrysburg, Ohio. The organization is dedicated to
protecting northwest Ohio's farmlands, meadows, wetlands, and
woods.
The Jeanne Reed Foundation also recently increased its funding
to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center to a total of
$25,000. Originally the Foundation had donated $6500 to create a
souvenir book for guests to the Center. But after the Federal
Government announced a new initiative entitled Save America's
Treasures, the Foundation upped its funding by $18,500 in
order to help the Presidential Center meet its goal for matching
funds to restore the Hayes home to its former beauty and elegance.
